Bladder Health Program

As we age, it becomes more common to experience bladder issues. Our bladder is part of our urinary system, which includes our urethra, ureters, and our kidneys. The bladder is a hollow organ; as we age, it can stretch and become less elastic. When our bladders become less stretchy, it’s difficult to hold as much urine as we previously could – causing more frequent visits to the bathroom. In addition, our pelvic floor muscles may become weaker, furthering the issue of incontinence.

Common Bladder Problems

UTIs (Urinary Tract Infections): UTIs are the second most common type of infection in our entire body. Over 50% of women will experience a UTI at some point in their life. As we age, UTIs become more common due to the weakening of the bladder muscles, making it more difficult to empty our bladders. There are a few types of UTIs including:

  • Bladder infection
  • Urethra infection
  • Kidney infection

Bladder cancer: Bladder cancer is a common form of cancer that we see in men more than women. Bladder cancer is more likely to affect older adults; however, it can happen at any age of life.
